The Baby Thing is a compact BFS (Bait Finesse System) soft plastic lure made by WM Bayou in Houston, Texas. A smaller version of the original Thing creature bait, scaled for ultralight finesse applications and light-line bass fishing. American-made with premium hand-poured plastisol.
Best rigs: Ned rig (1/16–3/16 oz mushroom jighead, primary BFS rig), drop shot (nose-hooked, 8–12 inches off bottom on 6 lb fluorocarbon), shaky head (1/16–1/8 oz), and Tokyo rig for finesse bottom contact. Spinning gear with 4–8 lb fluorocarbon. BFS-specific reels (e.g., Shimano Aldebaran BFS) optimized for 1/16–3/16 oz lures.
Choose the Baby Thing when: bass are post-cold-front and finicky, water is gin-clear (less than 3 feet visibility loss), targeting spotted bass on finesse setups, or fishing heavily pressured tournament lakes. The full-size Thing excels for power fishing, heavy cover, and punching mats.
